The Paper theory of achieving your goals
It so often happens that we plan a lot of things. We plan to get things done. We are highly motivated, filled with energy, it feels though as if we can go get the world.
But..
But.. The fire eventually fades away, we lose track of what our goals are, we succumb to distractions.
And basically in the end we fail. And yet again we start planning and the cycle goes on.
What’s the solution for this? More importantly, What’s the root cause for this?
There are only two reasons that I personally can sum up.
- You forget your goals, eventually.
All your goals, enthusiasm, energy get directed to some other places. Emotions take control. The flow goes away.
2. You put a lot in your plate which you actually know is impossible to achieve.
We are so filled with booming energy that we tend to take in more than we can digest.
So here is the “PAPER THEORY” of achieving your goals.
There is a saying, “ A person can achieve his/her goals if and only if he holds on to them long enough.”
Fair enough, according to psychology, one eventually forgets his dreams or goals because of the minute distractions that come into play.
So here is what you are gonna do.
When you feel the energy of “Getting things done”
Take a sheet of paper.
On one side you write down how you feel, the reasons behind the energy, how you are actually feeling, the “promises” you are making to yourself.
(There is nothing much more worse than Making a promise to yourself and letting yourself down)
On the other side you write down your Plan Of Attack.
Here is the most important part.
You must always carry that paper with you. Where ever you go. And once a while you take a look at it.
There is always a key reason why you felt… the way you felt, and when you read it, it lights back up.
This is going to keep the fire alive (reminds me of GOT) longer than it would otherwise.
On the other side of the theory is, OUR BRAIN WORKS WELL IF IT THINKS IT IS GETTING ANY REWARDS OUT OF WHAT IT IS DOING.
To tackle this. You time stamp the sheet. And set an reminder right away, 7 days from then.
When this reminder kicks in after 7 days, you need to repeat the same procedure again.
Now you have two sheets of paper all having the information of :
- How you felt then, how you are feeling now.
- What you thought you would achieve, What you achieved.
- Your capability of KEEPING UP PROMISES.
Basically this is gonna end in a two way street.
- You did what you thought you would.
- You didn’t.
If it’s option 2.
Here are a few tips.
- Put less in your plate.
- Remind yourself more of your goals and your feelings behind it.(Feelings are always are driving force. You can move mountains yo!)
- Take it slow. (Slow and Steady wins the race)
If it’s option 1.
Keep going on. Take in slightly more.
(Easy right? Not really, but yeah)
Summing this up.
CARRY A PIECE OF PAPER WHICH TELLS YOU TO ACHIEVE SOME GOALS WITH THE REASONS BEHIND YOU WANTING TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS.
KEEP AN EYE ON THE ONEWEEK DEADLINE.
MEASURE YOUR RESULTS.
IMPROVISE.
ADAPT.
OVERCOME.
Till next time.
